Energy Efficiency

The cold and oftentimes severe New York State winters has led to weatherization becoming perhaps the state’s highest energy conservation priority.

How Efficient Is Your Home? You Save Green Performs Comprehensive Energy Assessments

energy auditWe conduct thorough up-front energy audits that provide extensive detail about a structure’s energy conservation strengths and opportunities. You Save Green provides all customers with a complete analysis that will show you cost effective ways to reduce your energy bills.

Our professional auditors use a variety of techniques and equipment to determine the energy efficiency of a structure. All of our in-home assessments use equipment such as blower door, which measure the extent of leaks in the building envelope, and infrared cameras which reveal hard-to-detect areas of air infiltration and missing insulation.

In homes and offices, between 20% and 50% of all energy consumption is for lighting.  However, recent advances in lighting have enabled businesses and residences to make significant strides toward greening and cost control.

CFL BulbsCompact florescent bulbs (CFLs), described as “swirley” bulbs that “look like soft-serve ice cream cones,” substantially cut back on the wastefulness of conventional incandescent bulb, which turn only about 5% to 10% of its consumed energy into light, the rest being expended as heat. CFLs use only about one-fourth as much energy and last many times longer (usually around 10,000 hours). It is estimated that a CFL pays for its higher price after about 500 hours of use.

Americans spend about $40 billion annually to air condition buildings - sixth of all electricity generated in this country. An efficient roof can save up to 40% of your cooling costs in summer and can reduce urban air temperatures by as much as 12 degrees!

When replacing your roof, using reflective materials such as "white painted metal" can have a dramatic effect on your energy costs.

ENERGY STAR qualified roof products reflect more of the sun's rays. This can lower roof surface temperature by up to 100 degrees, decreasing the amount of heat transferred into a building.

Doors and windows typically account for nearly 30% of a house’s energy loss. New windows and doors on the market have proven to be highly energy efficient.

Energy Efficient Doors

Doors are available that feature sustainable designs, no VOCs, recycled metal and glass, and inert coatings and finishes, yet are highly durable.

We seal all cracks and crevices in your house to reduce leakage

caulkSealing and insulating the "envelope" or "shell" of your home — its outer walls, ceiling, windows, doors, and floors — is often the most cost effective way to improve energy efficiency and comfort. ENERGY STAR estimates that a knowledgeable homeowner or skilled contractor can save up to 20% on heating and cooling costs (or up to 10% on their total annual energy bill) by sealing and insulating.

  • 11% through doors and floors.

Facts about cellulose insulation

  • 38% stronger sealing properties, as compared to fiberglass
  • 24% reduction in air infiltration
  • 22-55% greater fire resistance
  • Superior moisture, vermin and mold resistance

Obviously, we can see vast improvement in your personal energy profile by replacing your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. But often a great deal of progress can be made in your existing ductwork.

A leaky ductwork system can almost double your energy bills. Simply by taping over loose joints, insulating ductwork, and cleaning out your system, huge efficiencies can be achieved.
